A2 Media - Album Artwork

Due to lack of progress on the filming side of the project me and James have swtiched our priorities aorund and we are going to get the print products completed before the end of this year giving us plenty of time next year to focus solely on the video. however we will ot forget about the filming and while we are doing the print products we will still try to arrange a shoot with which to get some footage of then band to use in the video. However the most recent progress we have made with the video is currently on our blog this template of which we will still carry on with as it still has some promising attributes to it and it will provide as an excellent template to use when it comes to us getting the final pieces of footage. Recently me and James got the album artwork for "Vortex" sorted out this was the rougb initial draft of it whcih we got:

Upon getting this we took to Photoshop and began changing it. Our initial ideas were the use the piece of artwork as a primary focus for the album having it centered in the album, from there we wanted to have the Vortex logo as is shown above fixed on the top once again centered on the artwork so it is obvious what the album is. From there we wanted to stick very closely to the Vortex colour scheme that being of black and green in this we wanted to keep the album cover like that with only black and green on it, to an extent this would make it a noticable motif for the band creating the finality that when you see the black and green you know it is Vortex. As for the name of the album we wanted to put it at the bottom of the album cover in green writing, but moreover we want to do it in a way in which is similar to the Vortex logo but at the same time is tangibly different to it to ensure that there is a clear difference between the name of the band and the name of the album. When putting all of this together this is what we came out with:

As can be seen clearly we have stuck rigidly to the green and black colout scheme and used an effect on the text of which makes it hollow much similar to the actual Vortex logo itself. Overall while this is just a first draft of the album cover I cannot see much more that needs to be done to the album we feel that the artwork with the green tints on looks extremely good and we are very happy with the quality of which it has to it. Perhaps the only changes we will make is maybe a few changes of text in order to see if any looks better or suits it more and perhaps we may increase the size of the Vortex and make it a bit more prominent on the album but apart from that we are very pleased with the first draft of the album cover and we feel confident that once we fix up the rest of the digi pak that it will be of professional quality.

  1. As well as the "internal" logic of your design, you should really link to examples which demonstrate why this is appropriate for your genre and audience - how can you demonstrate that it is "metal"?
