This is the video of mine and James pitch, overall it went well. We talked knowing what we were going to do and how we were going to do it. Despite this however there were several issues raised in the questioning of our pitch, primarily the biggest porblems we had were; is our video going to be linked to the album in a specific way through imagery our are we releasing it almost like a single, and do we have permission or require permission to film at the Battery in Durham. Each of these problems we will face in due time.

A2 Media - Album Adverts

This alum advert much simalar to the previous one shown on my blog, has the album at the bottom of the advert. However on this one the band are used as the main focus for the advert, the main reasoning for this would be that it is a different type of metal to the previous band this being "folk metal", however it shows that possibly if we wanted we could use the band as the focus for the advert then simply placing a bakcground on the imagae and merely editing the picture as is done on this advert. Here the band "Finntroll" their music is focussed mainly around myth and lore, more specifically troll, hence why the band have been edited to this image being trolls themselves in the image. Once again the name of the band is at the top of the page as we will do for our advert, as also with the advert and what appears to be a convention is to have the producers at the bottom on the page either across or in either corner as in this advert. So for our production we will have the destruction production logo in the corner of the page.

A2 Media - Album Adverts

Venom is a heavy metal band, considering to have majourly influenced thrash metal so they are relevent to the band vortex in the way that they would advertise their album. From the album cover it is plain to see an obvious colour scheme the black and gold and solver scheme is obivously someting either from the album or from the band in general. The way the advert is set out is quite simple really, the main bulk of the page is taken by the band name and logo, this is something we will replicate in our advert, taking up the majourity of the page with the vortex logo and band name. The very top includes a slogan referencing the album, perhaps something that gives a small insight into the album itself. Futhermore, the prominant idea of the band name and logo taking up the majourity of page is that it makes sure that as soon as the reader of the magazine sees they page they are instantly alerted to the fact that this is venom, and so if they know the band they will check it out if not they may check out the band and from there buy the album.he actual product itself being the album is focussed on the bottom of the page, revealed in different segments showing perhaps the album and the digipak and the special editon or bonus dvd that may come with a more expensive version of the advert. However in regards to the actual positioning of the album, it is positioned at the bottom of the page as if less focus is placed upon being that there is more focus on actually getting the band name notice rather than the albums. Nontheless the albums at the bottom of the page are a nesscity them being shown at the bottom underneath some kind of image that depicts the band vortex.

A2 Media - Album Adverts

Regarding the full A4 pages of album adverts, I havnt been able to find any on the internet that are of any use or that would be suitable in a way, and so I have bought Terrorizer magazine and simply photocopied the adverts out of there, once i have photocopied enough that are relevent to the project I will begin to post them on my blog with some level of analysis into what is common thoughout them and what is not so common.

A2 Media - Deicide

This band much like the Hammerfall video previously posted are of a different genre of metal to the band we will be covering, however this video still proves useful in being able to establish what is needed in a metal video and with this one more so what is needed when a narrative is present. The narrative in this video is obviously a zombie apocalypse or at least something along the lines of this, initially the video starts off with no music whatsoever, just the noise of the video itself as in the narrative setting the scene almost like an establishing shot. The actually music of the band starts very suddenly with hardly even a split between the video and the showing of the band, also notably the music does not begin at the same time as the band is shown, a little bit of the story line is shown before the band actually appears. What is interesting about this video is where the zombie and the band member are standing in the exact same position, which is good as it links the band with the video creating a sort of affinity between the two. Also at the beginning there appears to be as usual the mass amount of quick edits between the band members and their instruments, but at the same time there is little reference back to the narrative for a while, then as the music begins to kick in, the switching between the two becomes more and more astute. Noticeably though, there are parts again where the band and the video are incorporated together where they might be standing in the same way or doing the same thing etc, this is quite interesting and if possible could be included in our final project when it is discerned what the narrative will actually be. One thing that is worthy of mention, is that motifs fit for certain parts of the video, such as when there is a common riff played it will go back to the band, when there is a common drum part the video switches quickly from the band to the narrative almost in time with the music. This is a good example of how the narrative should go with the music, the way that the two are similar in the mood and context. Another particularly good example of this is the guitar sole and the guy being chased by the zombie. These two are linked in a way that during the chase the guitar is shown as typical in a metal video, but at the same time it refers back to the video showing constantly the chase from a long shot, back to a close up of the guitar. This sort of action is clever in several ways, one of these is it keeps the viewers attention, it keeps enigma for the viewer in the way that the video is kept on being split by the band and so obviously the viewer wants to know what happens in the narrative mainly out of sheer curiosity therefore the quick switches of band to narrative and good in keeping the viewer hooked and keeping their curiosity peaked. The video ends as suddenly as the music begins with a sudden stop to the music and the video, almost creating a sort of sigh from the viewer but more so expectancy, as in they still don’t really understand what has happened but nonetheless it they were able to watch it all the way through.
